Almost every August since I was 2, my family visited the Somerset County 4-H Fair. My Mom and Dad loved the homespun simplicity of the fair, and witnessing the joy exhibited by the 4-H youth members throughout the fairgrounds. Their love of the fair, especially the livestock animals, became part of our family fabric. At the 2011 Fair, my Mom inquired in the sheep tent about how I could join a sheep club, and the rest is history. We were invited to meet with the Woolly Ones Sheep Club at a post-fair picnic at Dutch Hollow Farm in Bridgewater, and that September I became a member! It’s strange to look back now at how little I was, at the very first time I was able to be so up close and personal with a real lamb, and how much I still had to learn and experience! I can say that joining 4-H was transformative for me, and I cannot remember not being a member of Woolly Ones.

My first hands on visit to the farm, June 2, 2012.
